The pilgrim’s trail

On this day, let ourselves get enkindled with the spirit and enthusiasm of the pilgrim. The Camino de Santiago is undoubtedly the most famous pilgrimage route in Europe. Although its roots go back at least as far as the Middle Ages, many still follow its routes as a form of spiritual path or retreat for spiritual growth. In fact, its popularity continues to grow each year beyond its “original context” spreading among hikers, cyclists and various organized groups.

We will start with the first “official” stop on this route: the beautiful medieval walled village of Saint Jean de Pied de Port. From here we will set out on the first stage of this pilgrimage. This first stage is undoubtedly the hardest, but that is not relevant to us because we move in a much more comfortable format: seated in a van. We will climb a beautiful mountain pass while enjoying magnificent views. Your camera should not be missing today because it will certainly enjoy the landscapes that we will find on our route. Ernest Hemingway described this area as the most damned wild territory of the Pyrenees for a reason.

While descending to a lower altitude, we will cross the border and continue our way to Roncesvalles. It is the scene of ancient battles, of epic deeds, and has been a place of welcome and hospitality for countless pilgrims over the centuries.

Our route takes us to Burguete where we will stop for lunch before heading back to your accommodation.
