The water trail hike

A lively, light walk, flanked by ferns, family orchards and small meadows where sheep graze and that runs along the banks of a small river. From village to village we will cross a rural area located in a narrow valley where still remains, to a large extent, the authenticity of a way of life linked to the taste of the land and that has already been forgotten in much of Western Europe. Its people and its hamlets still celebrate, at the beginning of each new year one of the, probably, most ancient carnivals in Europe. A millenary ritual through which they celebrate, affirm and renew their ties with the land which undauntedly scrutinizes their lives generation after generation.

The hike ascends sluggishly upstream to a recently refurbished old water mill where the locals still grind the corn they produce on their land. With advance notice we can visit the mill and learn about some of the archaic customs that are still alive in the area.

We will then return part of the way to enjoy a magnificent meal at a local rotisserie restaurant.
